Philipp in der Nationalmannschaft
Am 18. Februar 2004 stand Philipp erstmals in der Partie gegen Kroatien in der Startformation der deutschen A-Nationalmannschaft. Der damalige Teamchef Rudi Völler nominierte ihn für die linke Abwehrseite. Seit dem ist Philipp eine feste Größe in der deutschen Defensive. Immer wenn Philipp nicht durch eine Verletzung verhindert war, gehörte er zum DFB-Team und stand in der Anfangself. So absolvierte er auch bei der Europameisterschaft 2004 in Portugal, bei der Weltmeisterschaft 2006 sowie bei der Europameisterschaft 2008 in Österreich und der Schweiz alle Spiele für Deutschland. Auch jetzt wieder bei der Qualifikation zu WM 2010 in Südafrika absolvierte er alle zehn Partien von Anfang bis Ende.
